Lone Star Film Festival Opening Night

lsiffThe Fifth Annual Lone Star International Film Festival is off to a strong start. Last night, LSIFF showed the brand-new Alexander Payne (Sideways) film, The Descendants. That's right, Fort Worth saw Fox Searchlight's film before New York or L.A which doesn't open there until next week on Nov. 16. Just another reason that Fort Worth's cultural appeal is growing and people are starting to notice.

descThe comedic drama stars George Clooney, a Honolulu lawyer who copes with his wife, in a coma state, due to a boating accident. Clooney is the "understudy" parent, and struggles to find a way to raise his 10- year-old daughter in an emotionally healthy environment. Clooney brings in his daughter from college, who is followed by her friend, Sid (rising actor, Nick Krause). Krause made an appearance at the film and answered questions after the show, most notably: "What was it like to work with George Clooney?" There's been talk of a potential Oscar nomination for Clooney's performance int he film.

Visit the Lone Star International Film Festival site for the full schedule and box office details. The festival continues through Sunday, November 13. Other notable films for the weekend include: Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory, Rampart, The Artist, and Butter. The Festival is held in Sundance Square at the AMC Theatre.
