Fort Worth's First Whiskey Distillery

Leonard Firestone and Troy Robertson are bringing something brand new to Fort Worth this May: a whiskey distillery with the mission to produce small-batch, premium spirits. Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. differs from large distilleries in many ways. For one, the whiskey they produce will be distinctly Texan. With no other major Texas-branded whiskey out there, this was an opportunity Firestone and Robertson couldn't pass up. They use Texas agricultural products such as pecan nuts from a ranch in Glen Rose, TX to gather yeast and the water used from Texas aquifers mixed with the smoky taste from the barrels aged in the North Texas climate will produce a luscious whiskey. Lastly and my personal favorite, the production of the whiskey in small batches allows them to separate and remove the "bad" alcohols that create terrible headaches and hangovers.

We recently took a tour of the Near Southside distillery, located in a refurbished 1930s warehouse at 901 W. Vickery Blvd. and it really is an amazing venue.  With state-of-the-art distillation equipment (pictured left), approx. 400 whiskey barrels (right), exposed brick and repurposed wood along the walls, large open space for events and a inviting walk-up bar, Firestone and Robertson have created the perfect modern space with an alluring ambiance.

Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. will be open for public tours and tastings as well as available for private events and wedding receptions. Follow them on Facebook for opening updates.
