About Me

aHello, my name is Amanda Schooler. I am a Texas native and grew up in Plano, Texas. In 2002, I moved to Fort Worth to attend Texas Christian University. I quickly fell in love with this city and was lucky enough to land a job at the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau in 2008. Basically, I am paid to promote this amazing destination, 365 days a year!

I enjoy activities that are surrounded around friends and family – such as cooking, dining out and shopping. I have a wonderful husband, Blake, that I have been married to for almost four years, along with two four-legged creatures – Ella (a toy Cockappo) and Oxford (a Cocker Spaniel).

If you haven’t visited Fort Worth, before…we'd love to have you! We look forward to welcoming you to THE FORT!

Xoxo,

Amanda

Thursday, September 27, 2012 by Amanda Schooler
If you are as excited for the Titanic exhibit as I am, rest assured the wait is almost over! Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition opens on Saturday, October 13th at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. You will get the opportunity to see different objects that have been pulled up from the wreck site, view a model re-creation of a state room and bring the Titanic back to life while learning about the stories and experiences of those on board. Imagine stepping into a first-class state room or viewing the differnt types of china tableware served on ship. This is also the first exhibit to offer an interactive titanic experience where you can play adventurer and dive for your own artifacts in this high-tech Ipad display. The exhibit brought to the Museum by RMS Titanic Inc., is the exclusive steward of Titanic, so this is a once in a lifetime experience coming soon to the Fort Worth Cultural District, so mark your calendar to go back in time and board the greatest ship of all time, the Titanic! Titanic, Titanic and more Titanic!

Thursday, March 15, 2012 by Amanda Schooler
If you are a Titanic aficionado (nerd) like I am, then do I have a treat for you!

I would like to mention that my fascination with the largest and most luxurious liner ever built started long before Leo and Kate hit the big screen, but that is neither here nor there. I am excited that Leo and Kate will be back at movie theaters in 3D as this April marks the 100th Anniversary since the fateful journey, but what I’m really excited for is Titanica that will show at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Omni IMAX Theater beginning April 15, 2012. Anyone can watch Leo and Kate, but only in the City of Cowboys and Culture can you experience an actual expedition down to the wreckage. If you have ever seen an IMAX film, you know that it surrounds you like a dome, and this will allow audiences to see the ghostly wreck in extraordinary detail. The Omni Theater’s offering of the film, is in advance celebration of the Museum of Science and History’s presentation of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, opening October 13, 2012. For more information about the film, Click Here.

Titanica will show through the summer, but tickets are available now!

Spring Break Idea #7: Cowtown Goes Green

Monday, March 5, 2012 by Amanda Schooler
Looking for something fun to do with family and friends this St. Patrick’s Day? As usual, the City of Cowboys and Culture has you covered!

Grab your entire herd and head to Stockyards Station for Cowtown Goes Green, the largest and most family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Fort Worth. Enjoy FREE activities such as pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, games and contests with Radio Disney, live music and gunfights from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Then watch a real herd of longhorn make their way down Exchange Avenue for the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive at 4 p.m. But the fun doesn’t stop there...they created a special Western/Irish themed Cowtown Goes Green parade of local businesses, horseback riding clubs, radio stations and more to follow the cattle drive.

Don’t forget to wear your green and see you out there!

Let the Fort Worth Zoo keep your children during Spring Break!

Kids first through sixth grades will have a blast traveling to exotic destinations and still be home in time for dinner during Spring Break Camp at the Top 5 Zoo in the country. Each day they’ll “land” in a different part of the world and your world traveler will receive a stamp in their Zoo passport (without having to stand in line at customs). This is the perfect opportunity for them to be immersed in different cultures, learning about the area’s wildlife, habitats and current conservation efforts – plus it will provide you a much needed break during Spring Break! Space is limited so be sure to register now!

Dinner and a Show

Sunday, February 12, 2012 by Amanda Schooler
Bass Hall
Whenever I have tickets to a show in downtown Fort Worth, I always make a night of it – dinner, drinks and a show! I especially enjoy Ferré, located directly across the street from the beautiful Bass Performance Hall in Sundance Square. They have a great happy hour, tasty stone-fired pizzas, an extensive wine list and offer a variety of pastas. The best is when the weather is nice, because I make sure to sit on their patio – that way I don’t miss a second of the action outside plus a gorgeous view like this of Bass Hall. Be sure to try this excellent eatery the next time you have a night out on the town in the "City of Cowboys and Culture"!

Beer and Brats

Thursday, February 9, 2012 by Amanda Schooler
Not many people associate the popular downtown dining establishment, Grace with beer or bratwurst for that matter, but every Thursday, you can partake in a tasting of brews from a different brewery plus the perfect snack to accompany your drinks! For just $10, you get three full beers along with a brat snack! So mark your calendar for 4-7 p.m. on this Thursday, because they will be pouring Trout Slayer Wheat Ale, Moose Drool Brown Ale and Big Sky I.P.A. from the Big Sky Brewing Company out of Missoula, Montana. If the brat snack doesn’t quite fill you up, don’t worry….their bar menu offers an array of tasty treats like lump crab cakes, crispy fried oysters and more!

Woodshed on the River

Thursday, January 26, 2012 by Amanda Schooler
sdfsdEvery day on my way home from work, I pass by the same metal building on the banks of the Trinity River. There has been chatter for months about this building, a new eatery from Chef Tim Love – when it will open, what its name will be and what kind of food they will serve. Well, it looks like all these questions are finally being answered!

Woodshed Smokehouse will open on 2.1.2012 (according to signage at the entrance) and the menu doesn’t sound like your average barbeque joint. Featuring items such as smoked pork in a bourbon-and-coke marinade and roasted fresh beets served with earthy goat cheese creme fraiche, makes my mouth water just thinking about my first visit. I am extra pumped because Chef Tim Love also owns my favorite restaurant in the city, Lonesome Dove Western Bistro – located in the Stockyards National Historic District. I feel his restaurants are unique, trendy and a true dining experience, so I am marking my calendar for the first week of February to give it a try!

Are you looking in your closet as 2012 kicks-off and thinking you need some “revitalization” to your wardrobe? Well, the Beehive off Camp Bowie Boulevard can help you start checking off all your New Year’s Resolutions in style! With the original location in Austin, you're sure to find some funky finds and even better, there's a vintage section! I haven’t had a chance to stop by there yet, (am planning to do so very soon) but my friends rave about their selection, style and affordable prices. They have everything from cocktail dresses to simple tops to jewelry that can help any outfit  pop. Right now, they are having a winter sale, so be sure to stop by and pick up something to start off a stylish year!
